BLACK UHURU, ISLAND REGGAE GREATS, UK VINYL LP Black Uhuru – Island Reggae Greats Island Reggae Greats is a series of reggae compilation albums, released by Island Records in 1985. The series showcases selected Island reggae artists and three reggae styles (DJ, lovers and rockers), plus there was also a sampler featuring selected tracks from the series. The albums were compiled by Trevor Wyatt, contain extensive liner notes and the covers were painted by artists based on photos. Black Uhuru were the first group to win a Grammy in the reggae category when it was introduced in 1985. They originally formed as “Black Sounds Uhuru”. Uhuru is the Swahili word for freedom. The original line-up of the group was Garth Dennis, Don Carlos, and Derrick “Duckie” Simpson. Side One: Happiness; World Is Africa; Sponji Reggae; Youth Of Eglington; Darkness. Side Two: What Is Life; Bull In Thde Pen; Elements; Push Push; Right Stuff. The album is on Island Records, IRG 13. Matrix side one: IRG 13 A-4U (stamped). Matrix side two: IRG 13 B-4U (stamped). Released in 1985. UK pressing. Stereo. Condition: (as Record Collector's grading system. If I see a mark it will be mentioned however light/small, including from the usual very light paper scuffs/marks - usually caused by record being removed from the inner sleeve, which appear on nearly all old records and which are only visible under strong light) Vinyl side 1: excellent (a few very light superficial surface marks can be seen that do not affect the audio in any way, plays without fault). Vinyl side 2: excellent (a few very light superficial surface marks can be seen that do not affect the audio in any way, plays without fault). Cover (glossy): excellent (couple of small bashes on bottom edge, still in original shrink wrap only split at opening edge - see photos). The record plays like new with no jumps, skips or clicks and minimal crackle. I have tried to give my honest opinion as to the condition. I will give a complete refund to the buyer if they are not happy with the record. Any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. Check out the other records that I am selling at the moment by clicking on ‘view seller's other items’. RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM: MINT: I very rarely use the mint grade. Only records that are still sealed or records that even under the strongest of lights are completely unmarked. Also covers that are unmarked/uncreased in any way and still look brand new. EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is no lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing. VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable. GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc. FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced. POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing. BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler. Buyers outwith the UK payment by PayPal only.
