Roy Porter Sound Machine "JESSICA" Super Rare Original OOP 1971 LP - STILL SEALED CHELAN Stereo CHPS 2501 - Los Angeles This is a "no reserve" auction starting at $9.99 so let the chips fall where they may!!! ULTRA RARE!!! Not a bootleg or re-issue, this is the 1st pressing original release of Roy Porters legendary recording. The LP is STILL SEALED in original shrink-wrap!!!!! It would be almost impossible to find a copy in better shape but, although the record is still sealed, it is not in perfect condition. If it had been opened but still had the shrink on it I would give it a VG++ as the corners are a bit bumped, there's shelf wear, there are a couple small holes in the shrinkwrap itself and the cover has a few off colored spots along the edges where the shrink has separated, all of this is visible in the pics below, there are NO seam splits or anything like that. It was stored in a box with other LP's for probably the last 40 years and has a bit of a musty smell from being stored for so long. Please see the pics below and ask any questions before hand. This was from a purchase I made years ago at a local Los Angeles estate sale that had a ton of funk and small label jazz. I am as accurate and conservative in my grading as possible. Check out my other auctions as i have another Roy Porter Lp for sale. PLEASE SEE PICS BELOW!!! FROM ALLMUSIC: Two decades after drug addiction effectively derailed bop drummer Roy Porter's once-promising career, legendary L.A. producer Bumps Blackwell suggested he announce his return to active duty with a private-press session spotlighting his current musical direction. Had the resulting Jessica received anything resembling a wide release, it may well have been hailed as a classic. A deeply idiosyncratic yet potently soulful jazz-funk mindfuck that draws liberally and equally from Motown, boogaloo and the avant-garde, it effectively translates the experimental big-band sensibilities of Porter's famed 1949 orchestra into the post-Coltrane lexicon, even resurrecting alumni including saxophonist Jack Fulks, pianist Tollie Moore and trumpeter Hense Powell to further underscore the connection between past and present. The essence of Porter's approach lies in his juxtaposition of driving, dynamic rhythms and sleepytime horn arrangements, creating a strange yet intoxicating sound that forges monster grooves despite its adherence to odd phrasings and left-field tempo changes. Long traded for obscene sums on the secondary market, Jessica was finally reissued on CD in late 2006. I ship all my records out in proffessional LP mailers. I reccomend Priority USP but you can opt for Media Mail at your own risk. ALL SALES FINAL. Please ask any questions before bidding. I'll be happy to answer any and all queries. I can email or post more pics if anybody needs them. If you have under 10 feedbacks please email me before auction end or I reserve the right to cancel your bid, I've had too much trouble from non-paying or flaky bidders. All sales final, item is accurately photographed and described. Buyer to Pay for USPS Priority or MEDIA MAIL shipping to the USA, please contact me with your Zip Code ahead of the auction end for an exact shipping quote. For INTERNATIONAL shipping costs please ask before bidding. I will ship to most places with the exception of Italy and Mexico, unless I get an email from you first. I try to charge exact shipping costs and I add only $1.00 for the professional record mailer. I accept PayPal, Personel Checks and Postal MO's. Thanks for checking me out!
