THE BEATLES "1962-1966" DOUBLE LP MEGA RARE 'PYE' CONTRACT PRESSING (Valued at £50 in the 2014 Rare Record Collector Guide) THE RECORDS ARE A TRANSLUCENT RED WHEN HELD UP TO THE LIGHT EVEN THOUGH THEY APPEAR TO BE BLACK UNDER NORMAL LIGHT. 1973 UK PRESSING APPLE LABEL PCSP 717-1/2 Background...... Because demand for this Double LP was so great, EMI contracted with PYE to manufacture a small limited number of additional pressings at its own UK plant. These pressings should not be confused with the limited edition 'red' vinyl versions of this LP which were produced normally by EMI. This is the rarest UK pressing of this LP (valued at £50 in the 2014 Record Collector Guide Book) and has the following characteristics: Ø Translucent red vinyl. Ø Matrix numbers: YEX 905-2 & 906-2 (PYE machine stamped) & YEX 907-4 & YEX 908-2 (PYE hand-etched) Ø PYE Stamper numbers: F-1, E-1, H-1, A-1 (all hand-etched) Ø Both discs have matt custom PYE 'matt' Apple labels: PCS 7171 & PCS 7172 Ø Laminated 'Garrod & Lofthouse' cover - without the George Martin production credit inside the gatefold. Ø Complete with its matt G&L printed red lyric inner-sleeves with the tapered edges at the top and the squared edges at the base. Cover: Excellent+. Garrod & Lofthouse 1st Pressing. No writings/doodles or seam splits. Inner sleeves: Near Excellent - some wear to bottom edges. Labels: Excellent+. Vinyl: Not play tested. Both discs are PYE contract pressings on translucent red vinyl. Sides 1-3 look VG+ and Side 4 looks VG with a couple of scratches.. Mint - The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. Excellent - The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. Very Good - The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and light scratches. Good - The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and more significant scratches. Fair - The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise, it may even jump. Poor - The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc Bad - The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
