In this auction: · “CHART BUSTERS VOLUME 4” Capitol Records Sampler LP · This is Capitol Records ST - 2094. · It was released May 4, 1964. · This is a STEREO PRESSING. · This LP contains a collection of tunes from Capitol Records recording artists that include The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Al Martino, Nat King Cole, The Kingston Trio, The Drew-Vels, Donna Lynn, and Jody Miller. · TWO BEATLES TUNES are on this LP: “I Want To Hold Your Hand” and “I Saw Her Standing There”. (Note how a Beatles’ song begins the LP as the FIRST track and a Beatles’ song ends the LP as the LAST track!) · There is also the Beatles-related novelty song by Donna Lynn, “My Boyfriend Got A Beatles Haircut”. · This LP reminds me somewhat of the Capitol Records Promotional DJ LP entitled “Great New Releases From The Sound Capitol of the World, Balanced For Broadcast February 1964” that also contained a couple of Beatles cuts (from the “Meet The Beatles” LP) and cuts from other popular Capitol Records recording artists. However, the LP in this auction is NOT a Promo/DJ LP. It was produced for retail sale to the record-buying public. · I wonder if purchases of this LP met the sales goals of the Capitol Marketing Department. I mean, would a teenage buyer of Beatles and Beach Boys records be inclined to buy this LP with cuts from Al Martino and Nat King Cole? Likewise, would older folks who like Al Martino and Nat King Cole buy this LP to hear The Beatles and The Beach Boys? But I guess that’s why it’s a SAMPLER LP, an LP created to provide samples of a wide range of music genres from Capitol recording artists for the buyer to sample. · The rear cover pictures the “Meet The Beatles” LP and “The Beatles Second Album” LP with listing of song tracks for each one underneath (however, there are no tracks on this LP from “The Beatles Second Album”). · The COVER is in VG CONDITION. There is light to moderate overall. There is light wear on the front cover, but more wear on the rear cover. There is a total of about 2-3 inches of flaking near the top and bottom of the spine and a small light crease on the front cover near the opening. There is also some moderate wear on the 2 corners at the opening. · The VINYL is also in VG CONDITION. There are some light surface hairlines/scuffs. The vinyl has LOTS OF GLOSS! · This LP (both cover and vinyl) was produced at Capitol Records’ Los Angeles pressing plant based on the number “6” printed on the rear cover at lower right and based on the asterisk “*” in the trail-off wax which is the symbol used by Capitol to identify vinyl pressed at its Los Angeles Pressing Plant. · Therefore, this “6”-marked Los Angeles cover and “*”-marked Los Angeles vinyl are correctly paired/matched. · According to Perry Cox, the Stereo Pressing of this Capitol Sampler LP (like the one in this auction) has a higher value than the Mono Pressing. An UNCOMMON Capitol Records STEREO SAMPLER LP for your vinyl collection!
