For auction is Bill Evans' "New Jazz Conceptions," on Riverside RLP 12-223, MONO, 1956. This is the true first-issue, on the white "mike-and-reel" label. This is the original-issue photographic cover. SOUND: It has been machine-cleaned and I listened to both sides completely. There are various issues throughout, pertaining to background noise and clicks due to scuffs or scratches. These vary in significance from moderate (about VG-) on most of the cuts (A1-2, A5-6, B1-5), to serious (A3-4). Side A3-4 has a feelable scratch on the vinyl that caused a loud pop throughout, as well as a repeat (within A4). To sum it up, most of the record is listenable in my opinion, albeit with noticeable flaws, especially during softer passages. The middle of side A is more seriously affected, and depending on your collecting criteria, you might not find it acceptable. Definitely not for a perfectionist! That said, this is a rare record in any condition! Thus, I'm putting it out there for auction. VINYL: Visually, the vinyl has the one deeper scratch mentioned above, as well as lighter scratches and scuffs here and there. Side A3-4 are damaged to the point that it interferes with listenability. The remainder of the record (A1-2, A5-6, all of Side B) is listenable, and able to be enjoyed. The labels are white "mike and reel" design. They are fairly clean, with few spindle marks. The record is on heavy vinyl with deep grooves on both sides. The runouts are etched and they are very faint. I can't make out all of Side A. It starts "RLP" but I can't make out the characters that follow. Side B is etched: "RLP-223-B-3." Further along in the Side B dead wax: looks like "ILI." COVER: The cover is about VG. The left-hand seam is split all the way. The top and bottom seams are together, but frayed, with a small 1-inch split bottom center. The corners are soft, a little frayed. The cover is unmarked and retains some sheen, not bad at all. The back has routine aging, a bit of tape residue, a couple black scuffs, and a "Demo" stamp. Again, not too bad. The photos are of the exact record up for bids. Look before you bid, ask if you want any additional info or pics. From what I can tell, this is a very rare record, albeit with the flaws described above. No reserve, bidding starts at $100. Every record I auction has been cleaned on a Nitty Gritty vacuum/cleaner. I played every record to determine if there are static, tics, pops, hisses, what have you. I endeavor to thoroughly report any extraneous audio "noise" or problems of any significance. Other than that, I will report on the general condition of each record, both vinyl and jacket, according to Goldmine standards, to the best of my ability. Every record is put into a new, clean sleeve insert. In the case of an interesting original sleeve insert, I'll include that in the sale. If you're into this stuff, you might want to save me to your seller's list and check back periodically. I'll be putting a lot of vintage jazz records up for auction. I'm not a collector, nor an audiophile, but I think they are desirable if you're into this kind of material. Click "see other items" and thanks for looking!
