Artist: Black Sabbath Title: Vol 4 (Four) Details: - Rare UK Issue on the Vertigo `Spaceship` label, Has the `Howard Prnters` gatefold with booklet (interestingly shows track timings and has untampered WWA sticker on rear, this shows that although many suggest first issue Vertigo Swirl sleeves had timings, in actual fact 1st issue Vertigo swirl sleeves actually had `No timings as this `Spaceship` was the second and rarer issue`)!! Getting hard to find now due to Record Collector running an article on it`s scarcity!!: Run out/Matrix side 1 6360071 1Y//2 420 1 3 2 /side 2 6360071 2Y//2 ∇ 420 1 4 RECORD COLLECTOR MAGAZINE, DECEMBER 2008: “The ‘spaceship’ edition of Black Sabbath Vol 4 has certainty been the subject of much speculation. After all, there was a typing mistake in the RRPG 2008 that made it appear that the more common ‘swirl’ was the rare example - which was incorrect. When Vertigo discontinued the ‘swirl’ label they began to repress albums on the ‘spaceship’ label. However, as Sabbath had set up their own WWA label, this was discontinued, as the album was subsequently pressed on their WWA label. Though there are ‘spaceship’ labels for all four Sabbaths, there are less copies of this version of Vol 4 in circulation. Some sources have said as few as 100 are out there, but there are probably more than this. Music From their golden period this is up there with `Paranoid` & `Master of Reality` as the best Sabbath album ever, contains some of the classics that made up the live show!! Plenty of riffing and Ozzies ear for a melody. Side one No. Title Length 1. "Wheels of Confusion" 8:02 2. "Tomorrow's Dream" 3:12 3. "Changes" 4:45 4. "FX" (instrumental) 1:44 5. "Supernaut" 4:50 Side two No. Title Length 6. "Snowblind" 5:33 7. "Cornucopia" 3:55 8. "Laguna Sunrise" (instrumental) 2:56 9. "St. Vitus Dance" 2:30 10. "Under the Sun/Every Day Comes and Goes" Label: Vertigo Catalogue No: 6360071 Year: 1972 Country of Issue: UK Vinyl: (EX+) Thicker vinyl, Nice clean, looks hardly played, under Halogen Spotlights can see some sleeve removal marks and a couple of hairlines - nothing feelable or sounding! Sleeve: (EX++) Beautiful condition `Howard printer` Gatefold sleeve with booklet, none of the usual nasty ringwear, Top spine, no edgewear, sharp opening, what stops me grading this as mint is that it has staple holes through it (front right below `Vol 4`) and very small sticker damage and what looks like a Librarys name indented on back (seen at angle) still a very nice copy better than 95% that turn up!! Interestingly shows track timings and has untampered WWA sticker on rear, this shows that although many suggest first issue Vertigo Swirl sleeves had timings, in actual fact 1st issue Vertigo swirl sleeves actually had `No timings as this `Spaceship` was the second and rarer issue`!! Labels: Lovely clean labels with no visible spindle lines - Rare Post/Packing: UK - £4.50, Europe - £6.50, World £9.00 I use professionally made packers with card stiffeners & record removed from album cover.
