This is the LP "Cuts Like a Knife," the breakout album for Bryan Adams, released in 1983. And it will bring you back to 1983. It features the title song, "Cuts Like a Knife," which got heavy play on MTV and reached Number 15 on the charts. Also, the song "Straight From the Heart," which reached Number 10 on the charts. The "Cuts Like a Knife" video featured model Raquel Pena, and she is most likely to thank for the heavy play on MTV. Drop-dead gorgeous. The premise of the video: Adams and the band rocked out in a drained pool while she slowly got undressed in the changing room, slipped into a black bikini, then climbed to the top of the high dive for an apparent suicidal dive -- only to magically land in invisible water and safely swim to the side of the pool to climb out as the video ended. I can still vividly remember the great MTV VJ J.J. Jackson guffawing in the studio immediately after he played the video, saying, "Oh, yeahhhh." He didn't need to say anymore. In the pre-Internet days, this was worth sitting around for hours watching MTV, hoping this video would come on. Ah, Raquel Pena. I wonder whatever happened to her. But I digress. This is an old-school, vinyl album, so it comes with a cool envelope for the record, which features artwork and credits on one side and all the lyrics for the entire album on the other side. You just don't get all that cool stuff with a CD, cassette or MP3 digital download. Nor do you get that awesome crackle as the needle touches the vinyl and the record starts to play. SIDE 1The Only One (3:14)Take Me Back (4:49)This Time (3:18)Straight From the Heart (3:30)Cuts Like a Knife (5:16) SIDE 2I'm Ready (3:58)What's It Gonna Be (3:39)Don't Leave Me Lonely (3:09)Let Him Know (2:56)The Best Was Yet to Come (3:04) The album itself is in perfect shape. Plays splendidly. The album cover is in pretty good shape, too, although there is one spot of wear on the side -- highlighted in the side-view picture.
