I have never been more impressed by an independent record company so dedicated to pressing vinyl editions of live recordings, as the ever dependable Dutch 'Vinyl Passion' label.  Especially as they are granted a license to selectively choose Eric Clapton concerts Reprise were not releasing, in fairness, Polydor, RSO & Reprise have provided wonderful live albums over the years, we are lucky to have them.  Last week I dug out my 1996 "Crossroads 2 - Live in The Seventies " four CD set and thoroughly enjoyed hearing the whole 35 tracks, only three were studio recordings and as previously unreleased tracks, "To Make Somebody Happy", "Cryin' " & "Water On The Ground" were the icing on the cake.  As a live performer the man was and still is phenominal!  While sorting out picture files for ebay, it's convenient to play music files or long neglected but loved CD's, that "Crossroads 2" set has been re-played over and over again after 're-discovering it.' It only covered the years 1974 - 1978 and what a great band he had, which can be said about every single set of musicians Eric has ever toured with, this concert from 1988 was the earliest from the 'Vinyl Passion' catalogue and once again, just look at the line-up listed above. You could easily forget Mark Knopfler was on the tour ,what a feast of guitars that created, after yesterday's extensive overview of the 1970, Derek & The Dominos first pressing of "Layla &  Other Assorted Love Songs", I have almost run out of superlatives for the staggering music Eric Clapton performed in   every decade.  It would be easier to list the true greats Eric has not played with, than those he has, we will never see the like of him again because of the comtempories around over the last 53 years.  This factory sealed double album contains yet another incredible chapter in the life of a guitar genius who fulfilled a persuit of musical excellence, the 'book' is still not finished and hopefully there will be many, many more live and studio albums to come. {Roy} R & M RECORDS.
