"DEAD END ROAD" (J.J. Cale) Well, I feel like I'm running down a dead end road, Yes, I feel like I'm running down a dead end road, I need some someone to tell me which way I ought to go., , Say goodbye to the morning, hello weekend time, Say goodbye to the morning, down the road I am flying, If I look way beyond mem I'll be getting way behind. I can't seem to catch up. distance keeps falling away, I can't seem to catch up distance, keeps falling away, Makes no difference where I go, dead end road every way. I feel like I'm running down a dead end road, Well like I'm running down a dead end road. I need some one to tell me which way I ought to go. . J.J. CALE & ERIC CLAPTON: "The Road To Escondido" DOUBLE LP, EXTREMELY RARE FIRST AND ONLY PRESSING ON 180 GRAM VINYL. THE ALBUM WAS RELEASED 7th NOVEMBER, 2006. This is a genuine UK bought album in September 2005, Reprise/ Warner records ceased to be pressed in Britain by the end of the 1980's, normally all European vinyl and printing were made in Germany. As far as I know the only vinyl pressing made in 2006 of "The Road to Escondido", was Reprise in the USA, due to the rarity of this era's Eric Clapton vinyl albums, Rhino are just about to re-issue them. As I just wrote for a listing of first USA pressing of the 2004 "Me And Mr. Johnson," they will have different catalogue & maitrix numbers, I doubt very much if they will replicate the staggering all round quality of the vinyl and deluxe gatefold cover of the first issue in November, 2006. REREPRISE/DUCK RECORDS: 44418 - 1 (BAR CODE: 0 9362 - 44418 - 1 6) HAND SCRIBED MAITRIX FOR BOTH RECORDS: RECORD 1: WBR. 44418-1 SIDE A / WBR. 44418 - 1 SIDE B RECORD 2: WBR. 44418-1 SIDE C / WBR. 44418 - 1 SIDE D Please see my picture of the 'Stan Ricker Mastering' logo's in the run-out grooves, I chose 'Record 1, Side 1' and made no attempt to write down all the variations on the other three sides. Yes, I want to provide as clear pictures as possible of all the mastering/pressing details, but for Mint unplayed records, the least handling by myself the better. I am very careful but locating and copying details from records, is not holding a record to play or turn over, that involves holding the rims but to take such intricate details, presents an unnecessary risk I am not prepared to take for one of the rarest Eric Clapton double albums I have ever offered. 1966 or 2006 makes no difference, an unplayed rare set of of records has to be treated with great respect and one of the four mastering logo's and indexing will have to suffice, I have no idea what the second line means; SR /2 @ SRM (Representing the sound engineer and his mastering studio; 'Stan Ricker '2' @ Stan Ricker Mastering.' (9) 1?65051 (Unclear, that is my own interpretation) TWO PLAIN WHITE INNER SLEEVES, I DECIDED THE LOVELY PICTURE OF ERIC AND THE LATE J.J. COLE PLAYING GUITARS UNDER THE SHADE OF TREES, WAS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ONE OF TWO PLAIN WHITE INNER SLEEVES. BOTH ARE UNSPLIT, UNAGED & UNUSED, IN MINT- CONDITION. THE DELUXE QUALITY OF THIS STUNNING GATEFOLD COVER HAS TO BE SEEN IN THE PICTURES TO BE APPRECIATED. CONSTRUCTED FROM MASSIVELY THICK HEAVY DUTY CARDBOARD, WITH A HUGE WIDE SPINE, AS I JUST DETAILED FOR THE "Me And Mr. Johnson" COVER, THE LEFT SIDE CORNERS/ SPINE ENDING's WERE FOLDED & GLUED WITH A 'BUNCHING' EFFECT, A VERY COMMON FACTORY FINISH FROM ANY DECADE. UNUSED AND KEPT INSIDE A PLASTIC OUTER SLEEVE, LITERALLY LIKE BRAND NEW WITH TRIVIAL STORAGE TRAITS, A GENTLE IMPRESSION FROM THE EQUALLY HEAVYWEIGHT PAIR OF RECORDS, THE COVER IS IN MINT- CONDITION. THE LABELS ARE IMMACULATE WITHOUT ANY SPINDLE USE TRACES, ONE SIDE'S LABEL HAS WHAT I CAN BEST DESCRIBE AS A FAINT STREAK, NOT FROM A SPINDLE THOUGH. FACTORY HANDLING OR JUST HOW THE PAPER WAS FINISHED, I KNOW FOR A FACT NONE OF THE FOUR SIDES WERE PLAYED OR EVEN REMOVED FROM THE COVER SINCE 2006. I WILL NOT PLAY THEM MYSELF DUE TO THE RARITY OF THE FIRST PRESSING'S. ALL FOUR SIDES OF THE RECORD ARE IMMACULATE, WITHOUT ANY MARKS AT ALL, IN UNPLAYED, MINT CONDITION. RECORD 1, SIDE 1 "Danger" (J.J. Cale) "Heads In Georgia" (J.J. Cale) "Missing Person" (J.J. Cale) RECORD 1, SIDE 2 "When This War Is Over" (J.J. Cale) "Sporting Life Blues" (Brownie McGhee) "Dead End Road" (J.J. Cale) "It's Easy"(J.J. Cale) RECORD 2, Side 3 "Hard To Thrill" (Eric Clapton/John Mayer) "Anyway The Wind Blows" (J.J. Cale) "Three Little Girls" (Eric Clapton) "Don't Cry Sister" (J.J. Cale) RECORD 2, SIDE 4 "Last Will And Testament" (J.J. Cale) "Who Am I Telling You?" (J.J. Cale) "Ride The River" (J.J. Cale) J.J. Cale - guitars, keyboards & vocals Eric Clapton guitars & vocals Derek Trucks - guitar Doyle Bramhall II - guitar Christine Lakeland - guitar & vocals John Mayer - guitar Albert Lee - guitar Billy Preston - Hammond Organ, Fender Rhodes &Wurlitzer Walt Richmond - piano Taj Mahal - harmonica Dennis Caplinger - fiddle Bruce Fowler - horns Marty Grebb - horns Steve Madaio - horns Jerry Peterson - horns Nathan East - bass - guitar Gary Gilmore - bass guitar Willie Weeks: bass guitar Pino Palladino - bass guitar Jim Karstein - drums & percussion James Cruce - drums & percussion Steve Jordan - drums Abe Laboriel, Jr - drums Simon Climie - percussion David Teegarden - percussion Recorded August, 2005 Produced By Eric Clapton & J.J. Cale Co- Produced By Simon Climie. How sad to have say J.J. Cale died last year in 2013, aged 74 after a heart attack, "The Road To Escondido" became the final time the great Billy Preston played on an album, his dedication is inside the gatefold cover. The album was not planned but it started in 2004, at Eric Clapton's 'Crossroads Guitar Festival,' a festival in Dallas, Texas that ran for three days, I have real trouble taking in how quickly ten years have passed. J.J. Cale appeared and Eric asked him to produce his next album, they got together and one thing led to another and they decided to make it a joint album. As Eric used to live in Escondido, a city near J.J. Cale's hometown in, California, they both liked 'Escondido' as the title of their only album together, Eric lived in Escondido during the 1980's and 1990's and they both lived there. Back in 1970, Eric recorded Cole's "After Midnight" on his first self titled solo album and of course his "Cocaine" in 1977 for the "Slowhand", the timing of this collaboration for a blues album was perfect. I feel drained from writing all the details from this, and the album dedicated to the other huge influence, Robert Johnson, both albums were bought from the same one owner who played the CD albums and kept the vinyl like brand new. I should have put them on separate days but if felt right to list them on ebay as a pair, concentration on maitrix numbers and handling unplayed vinyl is much harder than a well played record and knocked about cover! I often finish all the pressing and condition opening section and feel like I have finished the description's, especially this time, because the above said it all about the importance of the vinyl editions about to be followed by re-issues. "Me And Mr. Johnson" as a whole album of song Robert Johnson compositions in 2004, no doubt left Eric wondering how to set about his next recording's and what better than a double album with the man who wrote "After Midnight" and "Cocaine". Imagine if he got record with Robert Johnson, on that thought I will conclude my day spent with two stunning albums and start filling in ebay's listing forms. {Roy} R & M RECORDS. My lifetime's love of music and records began at a very young age, the arrival of the Beatles and the 1960's decade in general had a very profound effect. It was only natural to bring all my first hand experience of collecting vinyl into becoming a professional record seller. Over twenty years ago now we entered into the wonderful atmosphere of record fairs with the highest possible standards set. When the Internet became the world's new market place for vinyl, in 2001 it was time to join ebay. Those standards were rigidly adhered to as they will always continue to be, the basics of honesty and integrity were very much part of the era the music I love originated in, so here is our friendly and very efficient service we are proud to provide; EVERY RECORD IS FULLY PLAYED AND COMES WITH A 'NO ARGUMENT' MONEY BACK GUARANTEE. I USE GOOD OLD COMMON SENSE AS WELL AS A GLOBALLY ACCEPTED GRADING TERMINOLOGY FROM THE U.K. "RECORD COLLECTOR PRICE GUIDE" BOOK. THERE IT CLEARLY STATES "Sound Quality" AFFECTS EVERY GRADING LEVEL AND THAT IS THE ONE AND ONLY POSSIBLE WAY TO ACCURATELY GRADE RECORDS. i.e. COMBINING A STRICT VISUAL INSPECTION WITH VERY CLOSELY LISTENING TO EVERY SECOND, UNLESS PERHAPS IN THE CASE OF GENUINELY UNPLAYED VINYL. EVEN THEN WE STILL TAKE FULL RESPONSIBITY FOR A RECORD WHEN A CUSTOMER RECEIVES EITHER A SEALED OR AN UNPLAYED RECORD. MY DESCRIPTIONS WILL ALWAYS BE 100% HONEST AND TOTALLY ACCURATE ON ALL GRADINGS FROM 'V.G.' ( VERY GOOD), TO THE ULTIMATE 'MINT' CONDITION. ANY QUESTIONS ON OUR ITEMS ARE WELCOMED AND WILL BE PROMPTLY REPLIED TO. WE ARE FULLY EXPERIENCED AT SHIPPING WORLDWIDE AND NO EFFORT IS SPARED TO PROTECT RECORDS AND COVERS ETC. WE WELCOME BIDDERS FROM ANY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. ALL RECORDS ARE REMOVED FROM THEIR SLEEVES AND PLACED INTO NEW PROTECTIVE CARD SLEEVES AND THEN PLACED INTO NEW, HEAVYWEIGHT PLASTIC OUTER SLEEVES. THE GREATEST ATTENTION IS PAID TO MAKING THE PACKAGING EXTREMELY STRONG & SECURE. EVERY POSSIBLE EFFORT IS MADE TO ENSURE A SAFE DELIVERY AND WE ONLY USE THE VERY BEST QUALITY PACKAGING MATERIALS, THE COST OF THE ITEM IS IMMATERIAL, EVERY RECORD IS TREATED EXACTLY THE SAME. WE DO NOT TREAT POSTAGE AS A MONEY MAKING PROJECT, POSTAGE IS LESS THAN COST, USING ONLY PROFESSIONALLY PACKED BOXES WITH SUBSTANTIAL PROTECTIVE PACKAGING THAT DOES WEIGH A LITTLE EXTRA. UNDER PAYPAL & EBAY'S GUIDELINES, ALL RECORDS WILL BE SENT VIA A FULLY INSURED TRACKABLE SERVICE. We have kept all our charges at the same level for years now, but due to the Post Office's new price increases, regretfully we will have to increase the cost of LP's, however, singles will remain unchanged. Ebay were aware of that happening and have increased their minimum postal cost for LP's to & £7.00, that figure has been enforced by the UK Post Office and it will become our UK First Class, Recorded Delivery cost for albums up to the value of £46. For LP's valued above £46, the cost will be £9, we are unhappy about either increase but our high standard of packaging has meant in 12 years of ebay trading, there has not been one item damaged, we are determined to maintain that in the present and future. IN THE UK RECORDS UP TO THE VALUE OF £46 WILL BE SENT RECORDED DELIVERY, OVER £46 WILL BE SENT SPECIAL DELIVERY. FOR THE REST OF THE WORLD ALL RECORDS WILL BE SENT VIA 'INTERNATIONAL SIGNED FOR.'
