HARRY JOE BROWN Friar's Club Stag Dinner Roast LP | Private Press Live Record c.1950 Private issue LP titled in pen on the white label: "Friar's Stag Dinner For Harry Joe Brown." A roast of the film director/producer by friends George Jessel, George Burns, Jack Benny, and Art Linkletter. Even a few F-bombs from George Burns and Art Linkletter). Recorded c. 1950 Record is in VG condition and has no official jacket (comes in generic sleeve and cover). See pics for condition and email with any questions. VINYL: Black vinyl is clean and in VG condition. Some crackles and pops but no skips (on my turntable). COVER:N/A (see pics) NOTES: In an excerpt from a KERMIT SCHAFER book, he talks about the Friar's Club Stag Dinners: I have had the privilege to present my Blooper program before theatrical organizations, such as the Footlighters Club in Miami Beach, which is the counterpart of the celebrated Friars Club in New York. In the course of these appearances, I was given a precious tape which was literally smuggled out of a Masquers' dinner roasting veteran movie producer Harry Joe Brown on the West Coast. Theatrical groups had an ironclad law banning any recording of their festivities which were considered very private. Unlike the watered -down, pre -written Dean Martin TV Roasts, the all male participants "let their hair down" with hilarity the main goal. Many years have lapsed since this classic display of humor which, although sprinkled with profanity, is primarily meant to be funny, not vulgar. George Jessel, the Toastmaster General of the world and who is without peer, is the "Roastmaster" of this classic event.
