Artist: JOHNNY GRIFFIN Title: “The Congregation” Label: BLUE NOTE # BLP 1580. Monaural first pressing on medium weight vinyl. Label address on both sides is “BLUE NOTE RECORDS *47 WEST 63RD* NYC”. BLUE NOTE has no “R” registration mark on the logo. “RVG” and Plastylite (ear) are stamped in the runout groove on both sides. Jacket address is as follows: “For Complete Catalog Write to BLUE NOTE RECORDS, 47 West 63rd St., New York 23” Year: 1957 Personnel: Johnny Griffin – tenor sax Sonny Clark – piano Paul Chambers – bass Kenny Dennis - drums Condition: DISC: Vinyl is EXCELLENT to NM- with full original gloss. Has been played a small number of times and handled with care. There are a few slight paper scuffs but they are strictly cosmetic and not audible. Plays beautifully with nice clean sound, brilliant fidelity, and no distractions whatsoever. Labels are pristine. One of the cleanest and best sounding Blue Notes I have ever seen and heard in 35 years of collecting and selling vinyl. JACKET: Jacket is beautiful NM- with bright panels. Seams and spine are excellent; top right seam is just beginning to split at the corner (less than one-half inch). Reverse has faint pencil price notation at upper left. This is the complete package for the discriminating jazz collector who insists on top condition. Winning bidder will be very pleased. Track Listing: Side One: The CongregationLatin Quarter Side Two: I’m Glad There is YouMain SpringIt’s You or No One Review: “The great tenor saxophonist Johnny Griffin is heard in top form on this near-classic quartet set. Assisted by pianist Sonny Clark, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Kenny Dennis, Griffin is exuberant on "The Congregation" (which is reminiscent of Horace Silver's "The Preacher"), thoughtful on the ballads, and swinging throughout. It's recommended for bop collectors.” (courtesy Scott Yanow, allmusic.com.) Guaranteed to be original and authentic first pressing from 1957. I do not sell bootlegs or modern reissues. As with all my records, I offer a complete guarantee of satisfaction. If not happy, simply return it in same condition for a full refund of purchase price plus one-way postage.
