Through my window pane, Sunshine coming over the hills, Might as well be pain, Got the black cat moan, Got the black cat moan, Got the black cat moan, Got the black cat moan. Laying by the side of the road, With the disels flying by, Looks like my head is gonna roll, Don't know the reasons why, Got the black cat moan, Got the black cat moan, Got the black cat moan, cause I wanna go home, Got the black cat moan. Going back to Memphis, To find my sugary, Going back to Memphis, Cause that's where I want to be, Got the black cat moan, Got the black cat moan, Got the black cat moan, I wanna go home, Got the black cat moan. MATT, THICKLY TEXTURED YELLOW EPIC LABEL: S EPC 65455. There are unplayed records and then there are...unplayed labels as well, I try to highlight that 'brand new' appearance of 60's records that have never been on a spindle / turntable, with close up pictures of label centres. No need for these 1973 yellow Epic labels, they are as textured and thick as any 1960's record, a CBS feature I would really enjoy hearing and describing the album, however, the rare sight of Mint labels and vinyl after 45 years, I will offer this as I bought it, unplayed. MAITRIX: S EPC 65455 A3 / S EPC 65455 B3 Every first pressing I have seen had the above maitrix endings, it is always possible lower ending digits exist but I doubt it after 45 years. They will be found on the many re-issues on the navy blue Epic labels, not the first issue only, textured matt yellow labels. My original was bought on the day of release, it has the same 'A3 / B3,' a dual maitrix and the initial vinyl mastering logo in the run-out grooves. As usual, the CBS machine stamping was not completely clear but enough to include pictures of both sets of the indexing. To the left of the stamped maitrix, the hand written USA mastering indexing facing the the opposite direction: SIDE 1: AL - 321410 SIDE 2: AL - 321410 AS THE FIRST PRESSING "Sterling" IS ALSO STAMPED IN THE RUN-OUT GROOVES, THE LOGO OF NEW YORK'S FAMOUS 'STERLING SOUND' STUDIOS WHERE THE ALBUM WAS MASTERED. ORIGINAL 1973 EPIC / CBS INNER SLEEVE WITH RECENT AND CURRENT CBS LP REVIEWS AND COVER PICTURES. UNIMAGINATIVELY TITLED "The Inner Sleeve," BUT THE REVIEWS WERE EXCELLENT WRITTEN AND WELL WORTH READING. IN UNUSED,LIGHTLY AGED, UNSPLIT MINT- CONDITION VERY FIRST ISSUE ONLY, MADE FROM THICK CARDBOARD WITH MATT, ALMOST TEXTURED TOP SURFACE COVER, PRINTED BY 'Shorewood Packaging Co. Ltd. London.' These first issue covers were extremely vulnerable to severe wear and the overwhelming majority are in a dreadful condition now, I always tell the plain truth, the cardboard was much too thin and flimsy for holding a record. The surface was instantly scuffed and worn without an outer plastic sleeve, even average handling ring wear immediately appeared, as an unplayed record, this was spared the common subsequent heavy wear. That means only the storage traits of a textured covers over the last 45 years, the edges and corners have some minor rubbing, a record impression and just light natural ageing. Kept inside a plastic sleeve and thanks to the record never being played, the front and the back are unscuffed and unworn, so positively no ring wear, the LP title has the original deep red colour around the black lettering. The back also has unscuffed text and completely unfaded ultra bright colours on the band's picture, only a few tiny paper edge lines on the back's meeting point with the square shape spine. The spine has as near to perfect titles as I know to be possible, all immediately following covers had a smooth, shiny finish, this is really exceptional but by no means perfect. The collection this came from once again demonstrates how even unplayed albums lovingly stored, cannot prevent easily worn covers from surviving without standing traits. Yes, I can and do find ultimate condition vinyl, but I cannot hold back time for covers that were showing wear on the day they first went on sale in record shops! THE UNUSED COVER IS TILL HAS THE STARCHY STIFFNESS OF 1973, IN EXCELLENT+++ / NEAR MINT CONDITION. THE LABELS ARE IMMACULATE AND SO IS THE VINYL, THE RECORD IS IN UNPLAYED MINT CONDITION. SIDE 1 "Black Cat Moan" "Evolution" "Lady" "Oh To Love You" "Superstition" SIDE 2 "Sweet Sweet Surrender" "Why Should I Care" "Lose Myself With You" "Livin' Alone" "I'm So Proud" Jeff Beck - guitar & vocals Tim Bogert - bass & vocals Carmine Appice - drums & vocals Jimmy Greenspoon - piano Duane Hitchings - piano & mellotron Danny Hutton - background vocals Recorded May, 1973. Produced By Don Nix Jeff Beck's prowess and unique guitar playing set the 1960's decade alight, during his one and a half years as the Yardbirds lead guitarist, he was the first to use psychedelic effects as early as 1965 and was a major influence on the creation of psychedelia from blues. Beck formed the Jeff Beck Group with, Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Nicky Hopkins and Micky Waller, they released two definitive albums "Truth" and "Beckola." After Rod Stewart and Ron Wood left to form the Faces in 1969, Beck was in a car crash and suffered a fractured skull, followed by an eighteen month long recuperation period. Just before that happened, in early 1970, Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice had discussed forming a three piece band with Beck. The project had to be put on hold during Jeff Beck's enforced period of inactivity, Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice who were previously together in Vanilla Fudge, instead they formed Cactus with vocalist Rusty Day and guitarist Jim McCarty. After making a full recovery Jeff Beck resurrected the Jeff Beck Group, releasing two albums before disbanding them in 1972, he was a restless spirit and this would become the pattern over the decades to come. Cactus folded and with Bogert and Appice available again, in January, 1973 the timing at last allowed the trio to begin the recording of this, their one and only studio album. I kept the background details down to the bare bones as I regularly describe all connected Faces and Rod Stewart albums, sometimes I just throw caution to the wind and include everything, tempting, but with that long period of inactivity while Jeff Beck recovered, Beck, Bogert & Appice deserve full attention and I will only link them to his previous albums briefly. As a major follower of Jeff Beck's recordings ever since 1965, this description could have stretched to a mighty long description if I decided to include every twist and turn. The thunderous rock trio was the mightiest since Cream & The Jimi Hendrix Experience, but with only one studio album and a live Japanese only released album, this "Beck, Bogert & Appice" studio album has now slipped away from attention. That should never happen, Beck played really mean and heavy blue guitar. Just take the riff on Stevie Wonder's "Superstition," Black Sabbath sound tame in comparison and Jeff sang superb lead vocals on surely his finest ever blues performance,"Black Cat Moan." Tim Bogert was the bass guitarist and Appice played the drums, Beck, well he was back in scintillating form! I do not set out to to criticise my most loved artists, speaking personally, after the 1971 "Rough & Ready" and the 1972 "J.B. Group / Orange" LP's, when this new band performed live and in the studio, Jeff Beck had at last returned to his roots and they recorded a truly remarkable debut album. "Beck, Bogert & Appice" did not exactly set the UK charts on fire, struggling into the Top 30 at No.28, and only spending 3 weeks in the charts, April, 1973. The album was issued on the matt yellow Epic label only, as first issues, a CBS (Colubmbia) pressing. Only the first pressing' came in textured, canvas style covers, the re-issues were in a smooth surface cover, printed to look like it was textured and made in ultra thin cardboard, so was the vinyl! These first pressings were on heavyweight vinyl and have incredible sound, now at 45 years of age, they has become rare, especially if they still have their original stunning sonic and audio properties. The very rare live double album was later issued in Japan only because the UK sales of this LP were too low to release it here, in fact even the CD is tough to find. While working on their second studio LP the ever mercurial Jeff Beck just walked out and folded Beck, Bogert & Appice in early 1974, leaving only a single studio LP as testimony of their amazing music. {Roy} R & M RECORDS. My lifetime's love of music and records began at a very young age, the arrival of the Beatles and the 1960's decade in general had a very profound effect. It was only natural to bring all my first hand experience of collecting vinyl into becoming a professional record seller. Nearly thirty years ago we entered into the wonderful atmosphere of record fairs with the highest possible standards set. When the Internet became the world's new market place for vinyl, in 2001 it was time to join ebay. Those standards were rigidly adhered to as they will always continue to be, the basics of honesty and integrity were very much part of the era the music I love originated in, so here is our friendly and very efficient service we are proud to provide; EVERY RECORD IS FULLY PLAYED AND COMES WITH A 'NO ARGUMENT' MONEY BACK GUARANTEE. I USE GOOD OLD COMMON SENSE AS WELL AS A GLOBALLY ACCEPTED GRADING TERMINOLOGY FROM THE U.K. "RECORD COLLECTOR PRICE GUIDE" BOOK. THERE IT CLEARLY STATES "Sound Quality" AFFECTS EVERY GRADING LEVEL AND THAT IS THE ONE AND ONLY POSSIBLE WAY TO ACCURATELY GRADE RECORDS. i.e. COMBINING A STRICT VISUAL INSPECTION WITH VERY CLOSELY LISTENING TO EVERY SECOND, UNLESS PERHAPS IN THE CASE OF GENUINELY UNPLAYED VINYL. We take 100% responsibility after an item has been posted and offer our fullest support in the event of any problems. "There Are No Problems, Only Solutions" (John Lennon) MY DESCRIPTIONS WILL ALWAYS BE 100% HONEST AND TOTALLY ACCURATE ON ALL GRADINGS FROM 'V.G.' ( VERY GOOD), TO THE ULTIMATE 'MINT' CONDITION.
