From Wikipedia: Roots: John Lennon Sings the Great Rock & Roll Hits is a rare mail-order album issued by Adam VIII consisting of rough mixes of John Lennon's Rock 'n' Roll album. It was available through television sale for three days in January 1975 before Lennon and Apple/EMI pulled it off the market. The Roots album supposedly only sold 1,270 of the 3,000 copies manufactured, making it the rarest John Lennon LP. There are many counterfeits but this is a real one: COVER 1. The Spine reads Great (not Greatest). 2. You can see John's shoulder in the lower-right corner (most counterfeits lose the shoulder). 3. Cover construction is white poster-board not brown cardboard. 4. Printing, particularly the Soul Train Super Tracks album cover on the back, is clear and decent (though not top-quality). 5. Spelling is accurate (e.g. "stereo" not "estero"). 6. Adam VIII LTD. logo on front is sharp. RECORD 1. Orange label, average weight vinyl. 2. Normal size labels. 3. Catalog # A 8018 etched into trail-off area. 4. "Bell Sound" stamped into trail-off area. INNER SLEEVE Most, if not all, authentic copies came in an Adam VIII inner sleeve, advertising other albums on the label. (The record is now stored in a plain inner sleeve as the original one shown has seam splits.) Record has a few light marks but plays near-mint. Cover is VG++ with corner dents and some edge wear/dents. There are some raised line areas that looks like manufacturing flaws. NOTE: Foreign buyers are required to pay for Priority Express shipping for this album. Please see our other listings for more unusual & collectible records. Combine orders and save on shipping.
