One of the most highly prized classical recordings from the hi-fi era: Nathan Milstein plays Masterpieces for Violin and Orchestra, conducted by Walter Sisskind. This is the super-rare original stereo version on Capitol, and the even rarer true original master with D1/D1 stampers (almost all copies are D1/N1). This copy is not perfect, but it plays very nicely. There are some marks and scuffs but most of them don't affect the play much, if at all. The record has been ultrasound cleaned and I listened to the whole thing to determine the playback quality. Most of it plays really near perfectly, though on occasion there is a light pop or two. The one really problematic track is the Beethoven Romance, which has a mark running through it which makes a tick for some time. It isn't all the way through the track, but admittedly it is most of it. Not entirely ruined but this tick is there. The rest of the record is not at all like that. There are, as I mentioned, occasional light ticks but overall it plays really beautifully and all the majesty of this incredible recording shines through just as you want it to. The cover has a long seam split at the top and a very short one at the bottom, but is otherwise very nice. Crisp and clean with perfectly intact spine, shiny surface, and no real ringwear. Not a perfect copy but not at all a bad one. And incredibly rare. The original sounds very much better than the reissue, also. I A/Bed the two LPs and for me this copy would be preferable over a new reissue any day.
