A rare original copy of: NEGRO SINFUL SONGS sung by LEAD BELLY (5 Records) [http://mobile.collectorsfrenzy.com/gallery/310240760952.jpg] First commercial album of American folk songs, performed by Lead Belly. Produced by Alan Lomax. On April 1st, 1939, Lead Belly recorded material for what was to become a five disc album (five 78 rpm records) titled "Negro Sinful Songs sung by Lead Belly". Even though Lead Belly had recorded over two hundred titles for the Library of Congress, he was virtually unknown to the record buying public. But with this album he was to find his own attentive audience in the budding urban folk scene. * Performer: Lead Belly * Producer: Alan Lomax * Label: Musicraft Corporation * Description of Album: 10.5" x 12" * Linen spine binding and cardboard pictorial front cover. Sepia tone photograph of cotton pickers on a plantation. * Interior has 5 sleeves containing records. Vinyl: 5 (five) X 10" shellac 78 rpm discs: 1) First record is 'De Kalb Blues' & 'The Boll Weevil'. 2) Second record is 'Poor Howard' and 'Green Corn", verso has 225-B 'Fannin Street'. 3) Third record is 'Looky, Looky Yonder', 'Black Betty', 'Yellow Women's Door Bells' and 'Frankie and Albert' 4) Fourth record is 'Ain't Goin' Down', 'To the Well No Mo', "Go Down Old Hannah' and 'Frankie and Albert' 5) Fifth record is 'The Gallis Pole' and 'The Bourgeois Blues'. The records have been in excellent storage but discs are used and look to have been played once or twice, The album shows some wear around the corners, but the book-type spine and front cover are in very good condition, with minimal wear.
