Up for sale is an ULTRA-RARE private press jazz and blues LP, recorded in 1978 and released in 1979, featuring the piano and vocal skills of the 11 year old Harry Connick, Jr., who would go on to become an Emmy and double Grammy winning top recording artist. Young Connick has INSCRIBED AND SIGNED the jacket! You would not believe his voice in the one track on which he sings: he uses a gravel voice that sounds like Louis Armstrong! Album Title: Pure Dixieland*Artists: Harry Connick, Jr. Piano with Jim Duggan (Trombone), Freddie Kohlman (Drums), Teddy Riley (Trumpet), Walter Payton (Bass), Liston Johnson (Clarinet)Label: Studio A (Studio A Productions, Suite 402, 806 Perdido St., New Orleans, LA 70112)Number: 1001 (Stereo) Recorded on November 4 and 11, 1978 *According to the Wikipedia, this album was re-released in 1992 under the name Eleven. (That title was probably chosen because Harry Connick, Jr., was 11 years old when the original album - the one titled Pure Dixieland that I am selling - was recorded.) Side One1. Sweet Georgia Brown 4:362. Tin Roof Blues 2:523. Wolverine Blues 3:014. Jazz Me Blues 3:00Wax matrix marks: NR-102511 Side Two1. Dr. Jazz (Vocal by Harry Connick, Jr.) 3:242. Muskrat Ramble 2:353. Up A Lazy River 2:444. Joe Avery's Place 3:065. Way Down Yonder in New Orleans 2:46Wax matrix marks: NR-102512 The inscription and signature on the back read as follows: To WSMB*Thanks for inviting me --Best WishesHarry Connick, Jr.9/18/80 *WSMB was the the call sign of a New Orleans radio station. Broadcasting since 1925, it was New Orleans' first professional radio station. The call sign WSMB was retired in 2006 in favor of WWWL. The station continues to broadcast over FM 92.9, specializing currently in "hot" classic R&B. It's unclear what interaction Harry Connick, Jr. may have had with the radio station in 1980. The jacket notes were written by Paul Lentz. Beneath his name is a paragraph contributed by none other than Pete Fountain who writes: "I am very impressed with Harry's latest album. He has a natural instinct for the 'feel' of jazz and a fine ability for improvisation. He's a big talent for a little man - New Orleans should be proud of him." How prescient! Provenance: I obtained this LP from the estate of a disc jockey in New Orleans. The signature is more careful than other examples from when Harry Connick Jr. was an adult. I have no doubt that this is an authentic signature of the then 13 year old New Orleans native (he had turned 13 just a week before the date of his inscription, September 18, 1980). Attention US Buyers: I will ship by USPS Media Mail or by USPS Priority Mail, your choice. Please note that if you have a Military Mail (e.g. APO) address, I must ask that you pick USPS Priority Mail as it is my understanding that USPS Media Mail is not reliable to Military Mail addresses. Attention International Buyers: I will ship by USPS First Class International Mail (to selected countries where E-Delcon is available) or by USPS Priority International Mail (worldwide), your choice. Please note that the price does not include any customs that may be charged by the country to which this is delivered. (There are about 35 countries that have e-Delcon service. You can find a list by searching the web for “USPS e-Delcon”. If your country is on the list, but you are not being given the option of purchasing by USPS First Class International Parcel, please contact me before purchasing and I will attempt to change the settings.)
