A highly collectible item as there were only ever 1000 made. Each was numbered; this one is No 676. These 2 albums represent the only example of material by artists Mike Oldfield and Pink Floyd presented in SQ, QS, CD-4 and UD-4 formats. Oldfield's Tubular Bells was specially remixed for this. From "The making of Quadrafile" at http://www.stereosociety.com/Quadrafile.shtml : "... Moody Blues’ producer Tony Clarke had remixed all their albums for release on 4-track cartridge, a doomed format popular in US cars and, to a much lesser extent, in the home. However, Alan Parsons had just remixed Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon in quad, and he offered to present my case for its inclusion on Quadrafile to the group when next in the studio with them. Two weeks and a very polite letter later, I had the nod from the superstars. The last pop clip was a special remix in Abbey Road Studio Four of two sections of Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells, done by Alan with the participation of Tom Newman, the original record’s producer." For Tubular Bells quad remix layout diagram, see http://www.stereosociety.com/QuadrafileLayout.shtml Artist - VariousTitle - Quadrafile (No: 676 of just 1000 pressed) Label - Link House PublicationsYear - 1976 Country - UKCondition: The cover shows some wear, especially around the edges, but is undamaged; The records are in VG+/NM condition; Insert NM. I believe there was a text insert but this is no longer present, however, I believe the information is available on the web. QUADRAFILE was a sampler produced for Hi-Fi News & Records Review Magazine, England, comparing:Four speakersFour systemson Four sides The 2 LPs presented all 4 commercially available quadraphonic disc systems. Each system has a single side, but shares identical material with the others. The main use was to compare the effects of each system directly - using ears! The 4 quad systems are:SQ (stereo-quadraphonic)QS (quadraphonic-stereo)CD-4 (compatible, discrete four channel)UD-4 (Universal, discrete four channelThey come from the companies CBS, Sansui, JVC and Nippon Columbia respectively. Though the SQ system is basically of American origin the development of it was co-sponsored by Sony. SQ and QS are known as "matrix encoded" systems. Four signals from four tracks on a master tape are "matrixed" or "mixed" down to form two signals only. There's much more information on this on the inside sleeve. There was originally a loose insert giving more information, but this is absent. The information is available on the web.
