INTERVIEW 2. PISS PARTY ALBUM CREDITS The warning stamp on the cover sleeve of Starz' Piss Party EP tells the story: This album contains foul language. Who would have guessed that? Starz were raunchy '70s rock 'n' rollers from New York, who brought us the bright yellow vinyl pressing of the wild Piss Party EP... it's a true Spinal Tap moment! The four tracks that make up the extended play disc demonstrate Starz sense of humor. The cuts were recorded after the group's contract with Capitol Records had run out, when the group was in the process of reforming. The band claim there are no overdubs except on the cover of "Devil in a Blue Dress". The Piss Party EP opens with a track entitled "Reggae Plug". The song is a spoof of the controvercial "Pull the Plug", from the self-titled Starz LP (1976). After years of reheasing and performing "Pull the Plug" live, the band grew tired of the original arrangement and thus decided to take the song in another direction. No matter how the group twisted the number, the lyrics would forever be a source of condemnation from the uptight media. That was of no concern to the members of Starz. Play it loud man! "That's Alright Mamma"/"Mountain Dew" follow the altered remake of "Pull the Plug". The track focuses the spotlight on vocalist Michael Lee Smith, as the flamboyant front man displays his Southern heritage and Elvis worship throughout his fat-lip delivery. The first side of the extended play disc closes with covers of "Devil in a Blue Dress" and "Good Golly Miss Molly", which were laid down with the same arrangements as the original from Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels. Side two leads off with a radio interview from back in '76, during Starz first tour of the states. Following the less-than-serious taped interview, the hilarious "Piss Party" splashes in. Featuring a Brendan Harkin guitar riff, Richie Ranno handled the remainder of the arrangement, while Smith came in with the over-the-top lyrics for "P.P." based on an X-rated video of, you guess it, a piss party, while drawing on the chorus from Bachman-Turner Overdrive's "Takin' Care of Business". The song subsequently took on a life of it's own after the group played it on rare occassions in concert. THE PAYMENT METHODS WE CAN ACCEPT ARE PAYPAL, PERSONAL CHEQUES & POSTAL ORDERS.
