Just recently I bought a massive collection of 60's and 70's LPs...some are in surprisingly immaculate condition, and some are not, but the original owner (a well-respected Australian vinyl hoarder) was a fastidious collector of the styles he loved - 60's punk/garage, British invasion well-knowns [Beatles/Hollies/Dave Clark 5/Gerry & The Pacemakers/Zombies/Troggs/etc..], 70's West Coast sounds, pop-psych and he'd obviously forraged far and wide since there's a flurry of unique South American, New Zealand,Taiwanese, South African, Japanese releases amongst them all. Here then, is one of the LPs from his collection: ARTIST: The BEATLES - TITLE: "REVOLVER" . FORMAT: …vinyl LP… LABEL: FIRST RECORDS . CATALOGUE #: SFL-1337 . DATE OF RELEASE: 31st. July 1967 . PRESSED IN: City of Tai Pei, TAIWAN... NOTE: in Taiwan, in the 1960's and 70's, vinyl records were pressed in 3 different regions - Northern Taiwan, Central Taiwan, or Southern Taiwan - with the labels being based in the main cities of each region: Tai Pei [the capital - Northern], Tai Chung [Central], or Tai Nan [Southern]...with some, on the very rarest of occasions, being pressed in a 4th city, Kaohsiung, also in the Southern region. Sometimes the same record would be pressed in ALL THREE regions on different labels. This was never regarded as an infringement or a problem, as the companies from each region would honourably stick to their region and not sell their stock across 'borders'. Sometimes, most notably within Tai Pei, a few odd releases even came out on two different labels in the same city. In this case, I have no idea what sort of conflict it caused, if any...as more often than not, they would devise different covers, in such an intra-city case. But for the outsider - we overseas customers - this can be very confusing. This collection included a lot of Taiwanese Beatles LP's [and some by a few odd other quality 60's artists], and I will endeavour to unravel the mystery of just where they came from for you...as will be mentioned above (see "PRESSED IN: ___________" ). Up until 1969, virtually all Taiwanese LP's were pressed on at least one coloured vinyl, as well as black vinyl...some came on two or three different colours...most notable was orange and/or red. Lime green, pink, and yellow were much less common, and the occasional one with mixed colours are almost impossible to find as SO FEW were pressed - literally as few as 10-12, and even less. Covers: all Taiwanese album covers during this period (till about 1973/74) were printed on foldover paper or thin-card encased in a flimsy plastic bag, which often became grubby and/or torn rather quickly...the great thing though was that they tended to protect the cover itself rather well. With this collection, unless stated, all these flimsy bags had sensibly been removed, and the covers placed in a far more aesthetically pleasing thicker or clearer plastic cover. A smart move. You'll note that I've generally taken the record covers out of those plastic covers to photograph them. OK...back to the record we have here: ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING?: No, it's the second pressing on this label...on orange vinyl, with blue labels and silver lettering. (First press was on their 'apricot'-coloured label, with brown and red lettering.) ===================================================== CONDITION: COVER: ( VG++ )...very nice indeed!...has a couple of small edge-tears (well-repaired from the inside), and a couple of very small creases...otherwise beautiful!...
