This is NOT a "recycled" image from our previous auction. What you see is what you’ll get. GUARANTEED!) Swan #4152, She Loves You: Originally released September 1963 (7 months after VJ Records released Please Please Me). Still well before Capitol saw fit to take advantage of their right of first refusal and take a chance on The Beatles. This blue print variation released in 1964 is rarer than red print variation that was released in 1963. The white label blue print copies of this release are the harder variation to find in great condition because, by the time they were released, the Beatles were huge so these blue print versions got purchased and played, over and over again! Not many blue print were pressed to begin with, so, demand and price are high. The first release of She Loves You (September 1963) on Swan was a white label promo with black print and a factory printed X next to title. Stock copies from 1963 have a white label with red print. That was the standard Swan stock label for all of their releases at that time. The more common stock copies from 1964 are black with silver print because by 1964 Swan had changed its label color. Both the red print and blue print versions were stock copies. This 1964 white label blue print stock was made in limited quantity. It is thought that the white label blue print version was only made as a one-off to call attention to the release as the band was cementing its position in 1964 as the number 1 rock band in the world. Obviously Swan wanted to milk the Beatlemania of the time for all it was worth since Swan only had the rights to She Loves You and its flipside I'll Get You, plus a German language version of She Loves You. Note: Near the end of 1963, Swan had turned down the opportunity to release future Beatles records, most likely including I Want To Hold Your Hand, and could have picked up the rights to future releases if they had sold more copies of She Loves You by the November of 1963. The story Dick Clark always told was that, when asked if they should proceed with more Beatles releases, his promotion head told him "Nah, they're nothing, bunch of long-haired kids." Once Capitol broke The Beatles in 1964, She Loves You, still on Swan, became one of five Beatles singles in the top five of the Billboard Singles Chart in April of 1964. It eventually went to #1. Lucky was the kid who found a blue print version of this record in their local store and held on to it all these years. There are numerous other, more subtle versions of the "She Loves You" singles that have to do with where the individual records were pressed (Monarch, Rockaway, NJ, or Indianapolis). As is usually the case, such variations have to do with matrix info and label type face. *** "She Loves You" was the song that made Beatlemania a rage in England in late 1963, becoming the most popular single that had ever been issued in Britain up to that time. Although it initially (and inexplicably) flopped in the U.S., it was dusted off a few months later in the wake of "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and topped the charts stateside, where it became just as linked to the early Beatles' image as it was in the U.K. From the opening drum roll, "She Loves You" takes no prisoners, immediately charging into its indelible "yeah, yeah, yeah" hook; it was George Martin's successful brainstorm to move the chorus to the very beginning of the song. Although lyrically it was, like most of Lennon-McCartney's early compositions, an elementary boy-girl situation heavy on the pronouns, there was a twist in that it was related in the third person, not the first or second. A small innovation, perhaps, but one that the Beatles were proud of. Instead of telling a girl how much they were in love, they were virtually scolding a friend for throwing away the love of a lifetime. What really won over listeners' hearts, though, were the usual block harmonies, clever alternation of major and minor chords, and particularly the ends of the verses, in which the group simultaneously let out with explosive "woo"s. Lennon and McCartney were also especially proud of ending the choruses (and the song itself) on a sixth chord, which they initially believed had never been done before. It fell to producer George Martin to inform them that others had used it, such as Glenn Miller, but that didn't take away from its freshness in a rock context. Those "yeah, yeah, yeah"s and "woo!"s would annoy many a commentator as infantile when the Beatles first broke big. The kids, of course, knew better and embraced them as positive affirmations of the boundless enthusiasm of youth. Today those commentators are forgotten, and the Beatles' "She Loves You" is still played regularly. (EXCERPT FROM AN ONLINE SONG REVIEW BY RICHIE UNTERBERGER, ALL MUSIC GUIDE /ALLMUSIC.COM/) Simply one of possibly two or three most important (and rare) early Beatles singles / picture sleeves in existence. Miss it and weep For additional historical or discography information on this song or single click here TO SEE IF WE HAVE OTHER LISTED ITEMS BY THIS GROUP OR ARTIST CLICK HERE · · CONDITION: · 45-RPM SINGLE RECORD: (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted below, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the normal room light or discrete sunlight) (a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant). For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new. (b) The record comes in a poly-lined inner sleeve, which has - apparently with success - shielded the vinyl from the harmful impact of elements over many years! (c) Stereo copies of this 45 single are NOT known to exist. Mark Lewisohn, in his book The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions, mentions that when the band went to record German versions of their biggest hits, they were able to re-use some of the backing tracks from “I Want To Hold Your Hand” to make “Komm Gib Mir Dein Hand”, but they could not do the same for “She Loves You”/“Sie Leib Dich” because the two-track master had been “scrapped”. (“Sie Leib Dich” itself is available in stereo). (d) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
