If your a Who fan then this record needs no introduction, however for those who don’t know here’s the story. There was a few months in 1964 when The Who changed their name to The High Numbers. They released one record (this one) under The High Numbers billing before reverting to the more appropriate name The Who. The name change resulted from their association with Peter Meaden, a mod who briefly managed them in 1964. Meaden was instrumental in getting them to gear their music and image towards the mod movement, this was reflected in the choice of the name High Numbers which arose from mod slang. The High Numbers wisely changed their name back to the Who by November 1964 which also hailed a management change with Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp replacing Peter Meaden. Of course The Who went on to present their first single in 1965 called ‘I can’t explain’ as the debut record of the brand new Who, the rest is history but it started here with The High Numbers and this Holy Grail that is Zoot Suit.
